Clients are treated to a private appointment in which they receive interview-appropriate and job-ready clothing outfits, hygiene kits (when available), and a comprehensive guidebook (planned in the future) on how to effectively prepare for job interviews, nonverbal communication skills, and career advancement.

As a result, it is an essential piece of the job-preparation puzzle. A professional appearance builds confidence, self-esteem, and dignity. Where does the clothing come from? Through the generosity of national and local clothing companies, such as The Men’s Wearhouse, a good deal of the clothing we provide our clients is new. Career Gear Houston also receives gently-used clothing
from the local community to complement our inventory. All donated clothing is thoroughly inspected by our staff and volunteers to ensure its quality.
How does Career Gear Houston help men attain and sustain employment? Dressing professionally is a life skill people need in the business world. Through Career Gear Houston, men served are able to more effectively prepare for their upcoming interviews and employment.
Who is eligible for Career Gear Houston’s services? Men are eligible for Career Gear Houston’s initial services either: a) if they are attending job fair(s) or b) when they have a scheduled job interview. The clients would be eligible for a second outfit once they have successfully attained employment.
Does Career Gear Houston only serve men? With nonprofit organizations in the greater Houston area already providing clothing and appearance services to low-income women, Career Gear Houston's aim is to become the first organization to serve only men in such a capacity.
What types of organizations can apply for Career Gear Houston’s services? Career Gear Houston accepts referrals from nonprofit organizations that assist low-income men in preparing for employment. Our referral partners must be job-training, job-placement, and/or employment service provider organizations.
